Your body absorbs 60% of what you put on it! If I had known that fact, I would have jumped on the #betterbeauty train years ago. It wasn't until a good friend of mine showed me her Beautycounter collection, that I became interested in safer skin care. Fast-forward two years and now my entire family uses Beautycounter, my friends use Beautycounter, my in-laws use Beautycounter and my baby baths in Beautycounter nightly. It's part of my lifestyle. Using safe skincare and makeup products shouldn't be a compromise.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home (1).
What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day (1).
Not all chemicals are bad for you. Our bodies are made up of chemicals. It's the "toxic" chemicals that are bad for us. “Toxic” means those chemicals that can harm cells or organs, cause neurological damage, and/or alter important biological systems. Now, there are many different ways toxins can enter the body. It's almost impossible to completely hide from toxins today! Using Beautycounter is simply another way for me to limit the amount of unwanted chemicals in my body.
At Beautycounter, we've banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard— all while ensuring our products perform, and that they're as indulgent as any luxe shampoo, lipstick or oil in the market(2).
Am I saying that your current products are going to give you cancer? Not necessarily, it's not that simple. One product won't have that powerful of an effect on your body. But, in the next few days, try to count up all the products you use in a day. Then try doing the math for how many harmful chemicals you're will be exposed to throughout your lifetime. That's when it starts to add up.
As you know, I'm dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle. I work out, eat clean and wholesome foods and, as of two years ago, I only use safe skin care and makeup products. Yes, a healthy body matters. Yes, a healthy mind matters. But, so does my family. I'm living this way so that I can give myself the best possible chance at living a long and healthy life for myself, for my husband and for my children. I'll never be able to un-know' the information I've learned since being with Beautycounter. It has educated, empowered and inspired me to keep fighting against the status-quo.
