Happy first day of fall! Bring on everything, turmeric?! Yep, forget the pumpkin spice crave…actually no, don’t do that, that stuff is so delicious. But, this year I’m determined to give myself the best chance of staying illness and flu-free this flu season. I had it twice last year with a 5 month old who was still nursing every three hours and I was so busy I didn’t give myself enough time to rest and recover. Those few weeks were not only a low point physically, but I was emotionally unstable and unable to come to my senses, calm down and heal. My sickness stuck around for weeks and just writing about it gives me a pit in my stomach.
So, this fall season, I’m staying away from the commonly-avoided list of foods that deplete the body(sugar, commercial dairy, alcohol, processed foods) and I’m stocking up on all things anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and warming. Turmeric is a powerhouse when it comes to healing and inner-warmth. It specifically benefits the spleen and stomach, invigorates the blood and removes stagnation(energy blockages) from the body to promote healing. It’s also fat soluble and should be paired with a healthy fat in order to be absorbed in the body properly.
Ok, lets get to the recipe! This cozy anti-inflammatory turmeric latte is family friendly, even my 15 month old enjoys it! If you add honey, check with your pediatrician first before introducing honey to your baby’s diet. Enjoy!
